New digital cameras offer great flexibility, but image scanning still offers one of the best options for quality digital images.
Let Galleria Ventures do your scanning for you so you can spend your time enjoying the digital images.
Some Image scanning considerations:
- What is the source of the image ? Prints do not scan to as high resolution as negatives and slides. Usually we scan prints at 300 dpi. This works well for most uses like reprinting and simple enlargements ( for example enlarging a 4x6 to an 8x10). The 300 dpi can begin to look really grainy when you want more complex enlargements like a small cropped portion of the 4x6 enlarged to an 8x10. This is when you need the greater resolution offered by scanning negatives and slides. We can scan in negatives and slides at resolutions of up to 2400 dpi. (dpi = dots per square inch)
- What do you want to do with your scanned image ? Scanning to make a good print requires a different resolution than scanning to for a good image to look at on a computer screen. The image pixels (dots) on a computer screen are larger than image pixels on a printout. Therefore, digital images might look good on a screen output, but result in quite poor output on a printer. On the other hand a good 2400 dpi image for a printer would waste memory and be overly slow to work with for applications like viewing on the internet. (72 dpi is a usual resolution for images saved on CD).
- How do you want the scanned digital image returned to you ? We will make the images available to you for downloading FREE. A 2400 dpi slide image usually runs 2-3Mbytes in file size. Trying to download several of these can be very time consuming on a dial-up internet connection. Therefore, we do offer to send you images back to you on CD.
